With the AMMONEX pilot, Duiker introduces an efficient, futureproof solution to make green hydrogen available locally.

Rotterdam, 4 February 2026 – Duiker Clean Technologies is taking a major step toward a CO₂free hydrogen value chain. With a new, groundbreaking technology that produces green hydrogen entirely without CO₂ emissions, the company has chosen the Port of Rotterdam as an international showcase for innovation in the energy transition. The collaboration with Plant One marks an important milestone: securing the site for the new AMMONEX pilot installation.

The world requires large quantities of sustainable hydrogen, but transporting it remains challenging. This is why countries worldwide are working on ways to transport hydrogen efficiently and safely, and to make it available where it is needed. Globally used energy carriers such as ammonia play an important role in enabling longdistance transport of green hydrogen and allowing the use of existing infrastructure. Duiker’s technology makes this conversion process from ammonia to hydrogen more efficient.

Duiker’s technology is designed to regulate heat with exceptional precision, ensuring a highly stable and energyefficient process. In simple terms: the system has a long lifespan, performs reliably under varying conditions, and operates entirely without harmful emissions.

Duiker has been developing this new process technology since 2022. The FID for the pilot was taken in early 2025, paving the way for realization. The test results are expected in 2027.

“This agreement marks an important step in the realization of AMMONEX,” says Mark van Welsen, Managing Director of Duiker Clean Technologies. “The pilot enables us to validate our technology in practice and make a concrete contribution to sustainable hydrogen value chains.”

Pascal Spiekerman, COO of Plant One, adds: “With AMMONEX, we strengthen our role as a testing ground for innovative and sustainable process technologies and support the acceleration of the energy transition in the Rotterdam port area.”

According to Mark Stoelinga, Director Energy at the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the project demonstrates how innovation and energy imports come together: “Projects like AMMONEX are essential for building new sustainable energy value chains, such as the import of green hydrogen. They strengthen the port’s international position and provide an important boost to future energy security, the economy, and employment.”

The AMMONEX project is supported by funding from the European Union (Just Transition Fund), the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) subsidy of the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth executed by RVO, and GroenvermogenNL..
