Duiker Clean Technologies is constructing an industrial-scale pilot plant for its Ammonia Cracking technology.
With over 50 years of experience in process and combustion technology, Duiker brings proven expertise to the commercialisation of Ammonia Cracking. As a result, the company aims to deliver the highest energy efficiency and the lowest hydrogen production cost per kilogram. To support this goal, the pilot project helps de-risk Ammonia Cracking technology ahead of large-scale deployment. It provides critical performance data, operational insights and system reliability. Together, these elements are essential to meet the rising global demand for hydrogen.

Why ammonia matters for hydrogen distribution
Ammonia (NH₃) offers clear advantages as a hydrogen carrier. It contains approximately 17.8% hydrogen by weight. Moreover, it liquefies under mild conditions (1 MPa at 25°C), which simplifies storage and transport compared to pure hydrogen. Importantly, a global logistics infrastructure already supports ammonia—originally developed for agriculture. This means the network is now ready to serve large-scale energy applications. When paired with renewable energy sources, ammonia becomes a carbon-free energy carrier. Consequently, it gives engineers and developers a scalable path to support decarbonisation goals.
Technical validation at industrial scale
The pilot plant has a clear technical purpose. It will validate the performance, thermal efficiency and reliability of Duiker’s Ammonia Cracking technology at industrial scale. For engineers, this means access to real-world performance data and operational benchmarks. For investors, it offers proof of technology readiness, low total cost of ownership and strong scalability potential. In practice, applications range from hydrogen supply chains to industrial heating and energy import terminals.
Commercial readiness backed by experience
Our pilot marks a major milestone in scaling up Ammonia Cracking for commercial use.
It proves that ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion is technically viable, economically sound and logistically compatible with existing infrastructure. Construction of the pilot plant for the ammonia cracking technology is underway. Looking ahead, Duiker plans to complete testing by 2027. In the meantime, the company invites investors, engineers and industry leaders to take part in advancing this clean energy solution.
Funded by RVO and the European Union
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) supports the project under the DEI+ scheme.
Additionally, co-financing comes from the European Union through the Just Transition Fund (JTF).
Together, these contributions accelerate innovation that supports a fair and sustainable energy transition.

About Duiker Clean Technologies
Duiker Clean Technologies is a Netherlands-based engineering leader driving the clean energy transition with advanced hydrogen and ammonia-based technologies for industrial applications. With a robust portfolio anchored in proprietary low-NOx ammonia combustion and ammonia cracking systems, Duiker enables decarbonization across hard-to-abate sectors through reliable, scalable, and economically viable solutions.
At the heart of Duiker’s innovation for the ammonia cracking technology is the Ammonia Cracking Reactor (ACR) — a high-efficiency system engineered for the conversion of imported low-carbon ammonia into hydrogen, addressing critical bottlenecks in hydrogen transport, storage, and end-use. Together with its Stoichiometry Controlled Oxidation (SCO) technology, Duiker offers integrated solutions for CO₂-free hydrogen and heat generation, with ultra-low NOx emissions.
Duiker works closely with energy providers, industrial OEMs, and infrastructure developers across Europe and globally. The company is actively involved in strategic hydrogen corridor and hub initiatives, including the European Hydrogen Backbone and Port of Rotterdam’s hydrogen ecosystem, and aligns with EU objectives under RED III and H2Global to accelerate hydrogen adoption.
With decades of thermal process expertise and a growing footprint in global hydrogen projects, Duiker Clean Technologies delivers real-world solutions to meet industrial energy needs in a decarbonised future.
