Nowadays refineries, gas processing plants and refineries converted for bio fuel facilities for producing (petro)-chemical products out of fossil or bio fuels, need advanced technologies to stay ahead of the more and more stringent regulations. What we do 

Kick-starting the SRU-process with incomplete Combustion of H2S

The SRU process, or more specific, the modified Claus process needs, the so called, thermal stage to kick-start the conversion process. The thermal stage comprises of the Main burner, The Main Reaction Furnace and the Waste Heat Boiler. After this thermal stage about 70% of the H2S has been converted into sulfur. So it is pivotal the chemical conversion process in this stage of the process must be flawless and of excellent performance to get the most out of this conversion process. Needless to mention that the average composition of the acid gas stream feeding the main burner does not contain only H2S but often also H2O, CO2, hydro carbons, NH3 , RSH (mercaptans) and sometimes BTEX (aromatics, ethylene) . The combustion process must therefore not only partially oxidize the H2S but also completely oxidizes (destruct) the contaminants in the feed. Not complying to the latter may not only lead to soot, which becomes clearly visible as a gray veil on the fluorescent yellow sulfur, which lead to a less valuable sulfur product, it may also lead to severe corrosion and irreversible plugging and fouling of downstream equipment in case of not properly combusted NH3, causing considerable downtime of your SRU!
